ROCKWOOL Smartrock® is a two-in-one product: INTELLO PLUS + stone wool insulation board. It’s designed for use as continuous insulation on the interior of concrete and masonry walls. By combining Pro Clima INTELLO PLUS, a best-in-class smart vapor retarder, with high-performance stone wool insulation, Smartrock protects assemblies against changing moisture and humidity conditions—while delivering long-term thermal performance and airtightness. All this, while speeding up installation and reducing thermal bridging.
After years of behind-the-scenes R&D, testing, and refinement, 475 High Performance Building Supply is proud to announce our partnership with ROCKWOOL, resulting in the Smartrock insulation board—an ideal continuous insulation (CI) solution for interior applications in concrete and masonry exterior wall assemblies.
Why Smartrock
Smartrock integrates thermal, vapor, and air control layers into a single, easy-to-install product. The vapor-permeable stone wool insulation (rated at 27 perms) allows assemblies to dry via diffusion while providing fire-resistant, noncombustible performance.
The INTELLO PLUS membrane, pre-applied to the board, functions as both a vapor-intelligent control layer and an airtight layer—once seams are sealed with TESCON VANA tape.
Smartrock’s humidity-dependent properties provide protection against wintertime moisture ingress with a Class 1 perm rating (0.09). In warmer weather, the smart vapor retarder opens as needed, rapidly increasing vapor permeability above 70% relative humidity to allow inward drying. During construction, HYDROSAFE® protection helps safeguard against elevated interior humidity, with a perm rating of 1.19, making Smartrock ideal for winter construction.
ROCKWOOL has manufactured stone wool insulation since the 1930s, and Pro Clima has produced INTELLO PLUS since 2004. 475.Supply is excited to offer a product that brings these two trusted technologies together. We were so confident in this new solution that we used our own Brooklyn HQ renovation as a test case for Smartrock—proving its real-world performance.

We also offer all the Pro Clima accessories needed for a successful and reliable Smartrock installation. Before installing the boards, the masonry wall substrate should be inspected and repaired (pointed/parged) as needed, then airsealed with VISCONN, a fluid-applied air barrier available in white or blue/black. VISCONN can be applied with a roller, brush, or airless sprayer.
Once the VISCONN-treated wall is ready, Smartrock boards are placed inboard and fastened to the masonry using the TruFast fasteners of your choice. Plasti-Grip PMF Anchors are great for historic walls as they’re thermal-bridge-free and don’t require specialized tools and can work with more sensitive brickwork. A faster option is the Thermal-Grip Insulation Pins that are installed with e IP40 or IP50 gun—no pre-drilling necessary.
Board seams are sealed with the standard TESCON VANA 2 ⅜” wide tape. All fastener washers must be taped over with TESCON VANA 100 (4”) to ensure an airtight seal. These width options of TESCON VANA provide the proper overlap to the INTELLO PLUS membrane.
All penetrations need to be properly sealed using TESCON VANA tape or specific ROFLEX pipes or KAFLEX wire gaskets. CONTEGA SOLIDO IQ tape is used at windows openings and frames. This SOLIDO IQ tape can be used as well as to connect concrete floors/masonry walls without the need to primer these materials.
